I’m not on the Jessica Biel train. I think she is blah. I don’t buy her fashion moment (although I like the Havisham Golden Globes dress) and the only thing I get about her and JT is that they both really dig doing sports. But I’ll readily admit that this W cover is fantastic. That W does a great job of making girls I’m not really interested in reading about look really appeal on their covers. And this is one of the reasons I’ve always loved W. Well, that and the writing.

Downton Abbey Paper Dolls

image
How genius are these paper dolls for Downton from New York Magazine’s Vulture? I always loved paper dolls as a child. Changing outfits and creating scenarios to wear them was my favorite pastime (besides writing stories based on images in magazines). The facial expressions of the Dowager Countess are a hilarious take on the outfit switch.

These and more are available at New York Magazine’s website.

The What I do posters have seem to taken over the Sh!t People Say Meme. This one is for the travel writer and it is pretty on point (although my mother doesn’t think I’m homeless and I’d never compare myself to Papa Hemingway). I mean, my friends do think I’m a fabulous jet setter, but what they don’t see are the endless hotel tours, summer camp like cliques and, well, I guess there aren’t any other things I can really complain about. I do punch my head against the wall (proverbially) often to get the best mix of copy to display service and a sense of place. Off I go to do it now about Morocco. swak

Band of Outsiders

image
Before Heath, the Oscar noms and the pixie cut, Michelle Williams was another girl who looked familiar because she used to be on a tv show. Around NYC, including our Pilates class, most people didn’t seem to notice her. She was a bit of an outsider. And I sort of think she liked it.
A few years later she became known as one of our generation’s finest actresses and awesome style setters.
I love the newly released images of her for Boy By Band of Outsiders. They capture her allure and aloofness, and yes, outsider-ness, in that way that she is able to transform beyond her name and identity and enter the roles she plays.

Hot Lips

image
The other night I had a dream I was in a big meeting. And when I say ‘big’ I mean capital B I G. I was pretty confident it was going well. I think I liked my power outfit. And then the person I was meeting with (mind you, this was a dream), mentioned that people don’t like me because I don’t wear lipstick. Now, any one who knows me can tell you that I’m a gloss girl all the way. I love the texture, goopiness and shine that a pretty gloss imparts on a kisser. It isn’t that I don’t appreciate lipstick, it just that I think I’m afraid of committing to super-saturated colors (unless they are on scarves). I truly wish I slick on a powerful and punchy color a-la nude self picture taker above on this month’s Vanity Fair. I’m just not so sure what shade would look best. Got any suggestions? Mwah!

Miss Piggy’s Beauty Bonanza

image
It’s no secret that Miss Piggy has been having a fashion moment. Yes, that Miss Piggy. She strutted in Opening Ceremony for FNO, shot an editorial for InStyle and will make an appearance as a judge on that fashion reality show with avec Klum. But the pig in couture clothing is also making a mayjah splash in the beauty world. She’s got a few prods. coming out in a few weeks for M.A.C (that’s the advert shot above). And she has also inspired a bunch of polishes for the paraben-free OPI brand. According to the beauty blogs, the line isn’t due to hit the shelves until later next month, but I spied the lacquers at a local nail salon this morning. The 12 limited edition shades a fun nod to all things Muppets with great names like Wocka Wocka and Meep-Mee-Meep. But the best part is that they are all super shimmery and saturated. I especially love Divine Swine a sparkled wine tone that will look perfect on short, sqouval nails.

P.S. Did you know that Miss Piggy’s first name is Lorelei?

Breaking Bad

image
I don’t really love KStew. She didn’t totally annoy me in the Runaways movie, but in general I can do without her tudy akwardness. I realize I probably shouldn’t say things like that about people that I’ve never met because when random bloggers call me out and say mean rude things about me it makes me weepy, but I’m pretty sure tumblr’s search function will hide these remarks from her.
OK where was I? Right, this photo from the Sept issue of W. I know that I’m late to the party, but everything about this image is just so right. The eyes, the hair, the non-rudy tude. Thanks, team Stefano at W for making me think A. I should really start reading W again and B. KStew may just be eligible for Fanning-level style admiration. OK, that last part may be pushing it..

It’s Romy and Michelle on the cover of EW. And yes, they are wearing dresses made of Post-Its. When I was in college, someone hosted a ‘naked party’ where everyone was supposed to attend in various stages of undress. One woman (now a mom to two) fashioned a dress from colored Saran Warp, it was sort of a Rainbow Bright for adult get-up. These Post-It ensembles totally shame that concoction. In fact, I’d actually consider wearing them…ok probs not. But how young do these two actresses look?
