Ole! Flamenca Lips.

My quest for the perfect pink lip lacquer is temporarily being put on hold. I’m attending the flamenco festival tonight in NYC and I feel the perfect red lip accompanies the duende (spirit of the art of flamenco) as the most inspired accessory. Tonight I’ll be sporting a deep, saturated formula that is influenced by the colors of the corrida (bull fight) and roses for La Virgin. Since true red is a glamorous gal’s staple some of my favorite makeup brands have just the right shade and stay-put technology. And, perhaps more importantly, all of them are aptly called Flamenco.

Hot Lips

The other night I had a dream I was in a big meeting. And when I say ‘big’ I mean capital B I G. I was pretty confident it was going well. I think I liked my power outfit. And then the person I was meeting with (mind you, this was a dream), mentioned that people don’t like me because I don’t wear lipstick. Now, any one who knows me can tell you that I’m a gloss girl all the way. I love the texture, goopiness and shine that a pretty gloss imparts on a kisser. It isn’t that I don’t appreciate lipstick, it just that I think I’m afraid of committing to super-saturated colors (unless they are on scarves). I truly wish I slick on a powerful and punchy color a-la nude self picture taker above on this month’s Vanity Fair. I’m just not so sure what shade would look best. Got any suggestions? Mwah!

Kate the Great: The Lipstick Collection

Last week while half of New York’s fashion folk was toasting to my dear friends at MJ Collection, a group of uber lucky beauty ed.s were en route to London. Those gals got to meet and greet with Kate the Great and learn all about her newest collab—a lipstick line with Rimmel. (Jalouse!) Having been the face of the low-cost beauty brand for a decade, she and the co. decided to celebrate with the intro of seven shades of ultra-hydrating lacquer. To say that I’m excited for these well-priced pieces of goodness is like saying Angelina is a MILF, or rather, the understatement of the century. I adore the brand’s mascara. It actually plumps my anemic lashes without doing that weirdo under eye run thing that so many other volumizers do. I’ve got a big event early next month, so I’m angling for the vibrant pink. I hear the formula stays put too.

I know I shouldn’t be celebrating anything Dior these days, but the newest image of my top supah evs is just too beautiful not to post. This is from the new Spring/Summer 2001 campaign shot by David Sims. The pink lip and heavy eyeliner is pitch-perfect glamour. And the slick, effortless hair makes the look perfect for day or night.

Ladylike

Cut flowers are the red lipstick of home decor. They make everything look more polished and ladylike. I’m obsessed with this calla lily/green hydrangea combo from the lobby of The Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris. I love the juxtaposition of the light and the dark and the city and the country flower. Personally, I display single blooms in short vases. But if I had a fantastic florist (or was hosting a wedding again), I’d never tire of this look.
