Daydream Destinations: La Maison Blanche

Since Countdown to Ibiza has concluded, I’ve hopped back on the daydreaming train. This week’s pick La Maison Blanche on Shelter Island in New York is a bit closer to home. The eight-room guest house, which is within walking distance to the island’s popular Cresent Beach, promises visitors a homey, yet luxurious stay. And I just I love visiting beach communities in the fall when the air is crisp, the water is moody and the beaches are empty.

Who wouldn’t want to take in that sunset from the perch of a giant porch?
But I’m most excited about the cozy, old-timey feel of the hotel that dates back to the 1800s.

Countdown to Ibiza: Summer scarves.
I’ve been sporting the summer scarf since Nicole was a sidekick and Kim was a shopper for Brandy. There’s something about wrapping a piece of pretty material around my neck that makes me happy. The scarf goes well with anything from a cardigan and woven shirt to a tank (my staple) and a vintage-inspired swimsuit. In prep for my sailing adventure around Ibiza and her out islands next week (can you tell I’m excited!?), I’ve done some scooping around the interweb for some to add to my enormous collection of wraps of all sizes. These are some of my favorites. A few I already own, some I’m just admiring and a couple I may have sneaked past Husband while he was glued to his computer…

Countdown to Ibiza: Vintage-Inspired Swimsuits

Hello my darling readers (all 40 of you). I’m so sorry for my radio-free silence last week. I’ve been juggling deadlines at the day job and working on a massive package for a fancy lady mag. I also delved into America Profunda to serve as guest, translator and cultural attache for an international wedding. (Enhorabuena Anna y Jose!)
And now, I’ve realized that I’ve only got a week until we set sail around Ibiza. Good thing for my inability to refuse an online sale at J.Crew. Because this morning I received these fabulous vintage-inspired one pieces, absolute musts for those of us who don’t look like Kate, Pippa or that new princess. The ruching hides my tummy flaws and the polka dot print is a bit Talented Mr. Ripley meets old-school Sophia Loren.

I bought a crushable uber wide brimmed hat in the Bahamas this winter that will pair perfectly. And my lovable Target fedora will give the look a little tougher edge.

This one is a little more modern and a bit better for snorkeling, swimming and general running around. I’m excited to wear with my so-old-it-can-walk-by-itself bucket hat and my Cobainian navy cardi for paella on the beach or sunset viewing on deck.

Need. Want. Now.

image
In some ways I’m happy that I was disappointed in the J. Crew goes to Hollywood catalog. It’s a much better situation for my wallet. But these  Avenelle cutout wedges are a total must-have standout. They will look fantastic with slightly distressed jeans with a bit of a cuff (which b-t-dubs I also don’t own). On top: That Madewell peacoat and a white tank with loads of necklaces. It’s the perfect look for a jaunty Saturday afternoon walk in Prospect Park avec soy lattes with Husband. I think they’ll also pair amazingly well with my colorful summer dresses. I can just see myself strolling along the cobblestones of Old Ibiza Town when we visit this August. And I’ll be flashing a wide smile as we enjoy a paella on the beach, knowing that I’ve got these on my feet. Of course, I’ve got my pedicure color all picked out too. The discontinued Essie Bermuda Shorts. Which of course may put a damper on my outfit plans…
